Christopher Aaron
"A Real Cougar"

My son since the age of 8 months..now..23 years old.

A very special boy with special needs;

Like his favorite time playing basketball and softball.

This would not be possible if not for "Special Olympics"

and a man called Randy.

Randy is the coach for the Cougars for Special Olympics,

and he puts his heart and soul into teaching these special children.

By Randy's love and patience, I have watched Chris grow from a stumbling,

anxious little boy to one who now gets in there and plays to win.

I remember Chris' first game I watched. He was such a little guy then.

He would run up and down the sidelines,

afraid to get in on the playing area.

When he would run he would run sidewise.

Sort of sidle up and down the floor.

What a change I saw the night I went to his game.

No longer afraid to mix it up but anxious.

In fact the night I went as soon as he got onto the floor,

he got the ball and made the starting points for his team.

I was so Proud!

This is what the Special Olympics are all about...

They take these very special kids,

and give them self-esteem and courage.

When these kids play, they play with all their hearts,

and even if they lose they laugh and go on to the next game.

Some of the pro-sports I see these days could take a lesson

in good sportsmenship from these kids.

No Spoil-Sports here or Sore Losers.

April, 2004, The Cougars took first place and became the State Champions
for the State of Ohio in the school-age Special Olympics
