INSIDE MY MOTHER'S SHOES
by Shari

I walked inside your shoes this week
Learned things I never knew
As I typed out all your lovely poems
To make this book for you.

Your poems tell times of loneliness
Of struggles, pain and grief.
They also tell of happy times
Of love and your belief.

They made me think throughout these years
*Has your life really been that bad?*
Cause the major portion of your poems
Had me feeling pretty sad.

So many spoke of depression
Sorrow, death and booze.
To live a life of such turmoil
Is a life I wouldn't choose.

The gift you have, you gave me
To write your thoughts and more
To tell your life with-in a poem
I want to thank you for.

The ability to write the words
For the few poems that I do
Is not something you're born with
It must have come from you.

So here's the book I made for you
It's pages crisp and new.
This week has been a memory trip
As I walked inside your shoes.

Dedicated to my Mother
