Children's Story Hour

Memory Lane

When the children all have grown,
And you find yourself alone-
How the memories fly too quickly by.
Time hangs heavy on your hand...
Sometimes you can't quite understand
Where the time has gone, and often wonder "why?"

There comes a tear in your eye,
There's an ache in your heart,
How you wish the kids were all at home again.
So you take your pen in hand
Write some memories on the page
Of things that happened where and when.
Thus a story now is written
Just to fill a void in time
The memories now are there for all to see.
So if you happen by this way,
And a moment you can stay,
Won't you take a walk down memory lane with me.

The following story is fiction

FRIENDS

It was just a little dime-store necklace,
not much value at all,
but ,Oh! how Jodi loved it.
It was a gift on her last birthday from her very best friend,Lori.
Lori had moved away just last week, and Jodi missed her so very much.

"I'll wear my necklace always,"
she had told Lori on that last day they spent together.
"When I look at it I'll think of you,
and all the good times we have had."
A little tear rolled down her cheek,
and the two little girls hugged each other as they said goodbye.
Lori held the furry bunny Jodi had given her as a going away present.
"I'll take him everywhere I go," she told Jodi.

Lori's father had been transferred to a job in another State,
so the girls knew this might be the last time they would see one another;
at least for a very long time.
Now Jodi sat on the step looking out over the green lawn toward
the empty house where her friend had lived. Her heart was very sad,
as she thought of the good times they had spent together..
"Was Lori remembering too?" she wondered.

A smile crossed her face as she remembered the time they
had slipped away and went to the park without telling anyone.
They were so busy playing that they forgot about time,
and it got really late.
"Boy, Mommie was sure mad," she thought.

Then there was the time Jodi got very sick
and had to stay in bed for a week..
Lori came by every day to see her,
and to bring her homework from school,
so she wouldn't get too far behind.
"What a good friend she was," Jodi thought.
Suddenly she heard her mother calling,
"Jodi, someone is on the telephone for you."
"I wonder who it could be calling me,"
Jodi thought as she jumped up and ran into the house.

"Hello," she said into the phone.
"Hi Jodi, it's me, Lori."
"Mommie, Mommie, it's Lori" she said excitedly.
"Hi Lori, I was just thinking about you, where are you?"
"I'm home, but I just called to tell you I'm coming home, my REAL home.
Daddy's job didn't work out here, so we'll be home in three weeks."
Jodi began jumping up and down excitedly
as she laughed amd cried for joy at the same time.
"Oh Lori, I've been asking Jesus every day to bring you back.
I've been so lonely since you've been away."

The girls talked for a few more minutes,
then as Jodi hung up the phone she turned to her mother and said
"Mommie, Jesus answered my prayers."
Mother replied, "Jodi, Jesus always will answer your prayers
if you trust Him and have faith in Him. He loves you very much."
Jodi reached up and lovingly touched the little necklace around her neck,
and said, "Mommie, I think I love Jesus even more then Lori."
Mother smiled and in her heart whispered, "Thank you God"!

If anyone harm one of these little ones
better a millstone be hung around his neck
and he be cast into the sea
