A Child's Plea
My daddy and mommy have quarrelled,
They said they don't love anymore.
They spoke in tones loud and cruel,
My crying they seemed to ignore.
Oh, Daddy and Mommy look closely,
In the eyes of the children you bore.
Don't the pain in our hearts mean something?
After all of the years, give us more.
My Mommy told Daddy to leave us.
She said we could live alone.
But Mommy, we need our Daddy,
To make this house a real home.
Oh, Daddy and Mommy look closely,
To the children God loaned you awhile.
Give us more in life then sad memories,
Of a childhood of tears and not smiles.
I stood by the window, crying.
As Daddy walked sadly away.
The tears wouldn't stop their falling,
Even as Mommy led me to play.
Daddy and Mommy, look closely
Hold us children close and long.
As you feel each small heart breaking,
Think again, before you do wrong.
God blessed you with healthy children.
Though we're poor, we're rich in the Word.
For God also gave you a message
That not everyone yet has heard.
So, Daddy and Mommy, look closely
To God for a faith made anew.
And try to think first of your children,
Before hurting us the way that you do.
